Soils - sandy loam over clay. Limestone parent material.

VINTAGE

The 2004 growing season was an ideal season for growing grapes at Rookery.
Mild temperatures with little Autumn rain.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

Grape variety; 50% Shiraz / 50% Cabernet Sauvignon
Zone; Fleurieu
Region; Kangaroo Island
Analysis; Alcohol 14.4% by volume Ph 3.33 Acid 7.65.
Colour; Deep colour with some purple.
Winemaking; Crush destem. Open ferment - 7 days and airbag pressed to retain all flavours.
New French and American Oak - 20 months.
Cellaring; Has the tannin to support ageing for many years.


TASTING NOTES

Aroma; Complex, earthy nose. Mocha, Chocolate and dark berries.
Palate; Excellent richness with a fine savoury tannin.
Great power and length. Ripe berry fruit, supple mid palate.
Assessment; An excellent wine that will build in complexity as it ages.
Availability; Both screw cap and cork.
Serve; A blockbuster wine with the power and intensity to be served on those special occasions.
