Garry and Gael Lovering

The Rookery Vineyard, planted in 1999 is nestled eight kilometres south of Nepean Bay and ten kilometres north of D’Estrees Bay. Rookery’s exceptional fruit quality is attributable to the island’s Mediterranean maritime climate and soil composition ideal for producing quality cool climate wine.

Garry’s family has lived on Kangaroo Island for three generations, farming high quality beef cattle and lambs. Garry and Gael are now also producing their own boutique medal winning wines. The fruit is all hand selected and picked, ensuring that only the best quality fruit reaches the bottle at Rookery Wines.

Garry and Gael Lovering have established 3.2ha of cabernet sauvignon and 1.6ha of shiraz, with smaller plantings of sauvignon blanc, tempranillo, saperavi, sangiovese, chardonnay, merlot, petit verdot, riesling and zinfandel.

Our wine is a bottled ambassador for one of the most beautiful, pristine and isolated environments in Australia and some would say the world. Making the most of this maritime environment we grow fruit that is rich and robust with intense aromas and full flavours, that is handcrafted into exceptional wine.

Combining the very best grape growing and wine making knowledge, expertise and technology, you can be assured as you pour each glass of a Rookery Wine, the wine represents the full and very best potential of that vintage.

Kangaroo Island is located 15 kms from the mainland of South Australia, a place of genuine magic with its aquatic life, amazing coastline sculpture, wild flowers and prolific native fauna.
